Cooling towers

Cooling tower systems are an essential part of operations for many industrial and public buildings. However, without proper control measures in place, they can become breeding grounds for legionella and many other bacteria.
We offer a full management service - supported by the Houseman DataTrak electronic database - to ensure that our clients comply with current legislation.
  • Cooling tower risk assessments
  • Weekly monitoring and dip slides (microbiological activity)
  • Monthly monitoring/water treatment control visits
  • Quarterly legionella sampling and analysis
  • Six monthly cleaning and disinfection (ideally pack out)

Water Tanks

We go by the mantra that prevention is better than cure, aiming to save you the time, money and stress that arranging for callouts and repair work would cause. Ignoring your closed systems may seem like a convenient way to save costs, but when things go wrong it can prove to be extremely expensive and disruptive to your business!

We offer planned preventative maintenance service for closed systems, assisting the client in keeping the systems free of waterside deposits such as calcium carbonate scales, corrosion and products of corrosion, micro-biological activity, and fouling.
Installation 

Houseman Services supply and install water storage tanks designed to meet your demands. Our water tank design process takes in consideration both water demand, installation space and booster set requirements. 

Maintenance 

To achieve compliance, a hygienic approach to water storage must be maintained at all times. This is where we step in.

Our upkeep services for new and existing tanks include the following: 

- bi-annual inspections to drain down and check for the presence of calcium carbonate scale, sites of corrosion and/or products of corrosion, biofilms, and sediments
- Clean & disinfections to remove harmful contaminants 
- Descale & silt

 System clean & disinfection

One of the key aspects of The Approved Code of Practice (ACoPL8/HSG274 Parts 1, 2 & 3) is the requirement for the maintenance of clean conditions in all online water systems.
If your premises or part of your premises (commercial or domestic) has been closed/unused for several weeks, or your water storage tank hasn’t been flushed and cleaned for a period of time, harmful bacteria and biofilm is at risk of proliferating within your system.

Our service packages include:
  • Cleaning and disinfection of cold-water storage tanks
  • Associated hot and cold services
  • Cooling tower pack-out cleaning and disinfection
  • Water tank refurbishment
  • Mains injection disinfection
  • Acid descaling
Our experienced team of trained professionals will flush your system through and inject appropriate chemicals (normally sodium hypochlorite at a concentration of 50 p.p.m) for at least 1 hour contact time throughout the complete system.

Sodium hypochlorite is a very reactive species and forms compounds with many other species, making it ideal for dealing with the aforementioned bacteria. However, we also offer the application of alternative disinfectants, namely hydrogen peroxide or chlorine dioxide, all of which can meet your cleaning requirements.

Following the completion of our disinfection process, we will take samples for legionella, E-Coli, Coliforms and TVCs to confirm your water is safe and exceeds the required quality standards.

All work is carried out to BSRIA guidelines.

Chemical dosing

We supply, service and maintain a range of automated dosing units and systems for a variety of applications including water quality, closed systems and control systems.
Supply/Installation
We provide a range of chlorine dioxide, inhibitor and biocide dosage units, control boards and service parts. Unlike other services providers who only promote their own in-house products, we assess your needs and requirements to ensure you are receiving the most appropriate and competitively priced product for your application.

Maintenance
Our experienced engineers will expertly maintain your dosing unit to ensure they are operational, compliant, clean, and set up correctly to release the right proportion of chemicals at the right time.

Our chemical maintenance packages are designed to ensure your units are always stocked to the correct levels in line with demand. We take great consideration to your seasonal and annual requirements to ensure you are never under or overstocked, thus maximising savings.

Water Heaters

Water boilers and heaters (such as calorifiers) provide a pivotal role in heating, manufacturing and industrial processes.

If not maintained, harmful deposits can form inside the boiler damaging its performance, safety and longevity.

Our tailored maintenance and service packages are designed to ensure your equipment is compliant, operating efficiently and protected against deterioration.

We develop specific pre-treatment, thermal disinfection, system management, inhibitor and chemical treatment programmes to maintain efficiency and reduce scale and corrosion.

Water softeners

At Houseman we supply, maintain and repair water softeners in both domestic and commercial settings. When asked to supply, the softener we recommend will be one that meets your needs most effectively – including the size of your premises, the application, and the hardness of the water. Our maintenance and servicing packages include health checks, component checks, hardness monitoring, descaling and disinfections. They are designed to ensure your water softener is always operating effectively and efficiently. If you are having problems with your water softener, it is it not working correctly or delivering the results it should be, our experienced and qualified engineers can attend site to promptly diagnose the issue and determine the required remedial action.  

A water softener reduces the calcium or magnesium ion concentration in hard water.

There are three major problems associated with these ions:

  • The metal ions react with soaps and calcium sensitive detergents, hindering their ability to lather properly, and forming a precipitate commonly referred to as “scum” or “bathtub ring”.
  • They inhibit the cleaning effect of detergent formulations.
  • Calcium and magnesium carbonates tend to adhere to the surfaces of pipes and heat exchanger surfaces.

Our water softeners allow commercial and domestic clients to treat their hard water effectively and reliably.
